This is “key concept” #1 (#1 of 7 "key concepts" in this blog).
I believe this foundational statement of Christianity is unique among world religions. Other religions call on us to earn God’s approval (we can’t), or that our good deeds need to outweigh our bad deeds to be judged good enough (they won't), or that our next life will be predicated on how good we were in this life, or that we have to offer enough prayers or offerings to make a good impression on God. None of this makes God love us. He already does.
